Now living in Culpeper, Va. Had our 50th reunion at the Brownstone in Paterson in May and it was great. Everyone was upbeat and proactive. Only downer was the tour of the old Eastside HS. Not the way I remembered it . Neighbors are run down and so is the city. The Falls near Hinchcliff Stadium were beautiful. County has made it into a beautiful park and the hydro electric station at the falls provides needed electrical power for the area. Had hotdogs all the way at Falls View and bought the dogs and the sauce to bring back to my kids in Virginia to let them enjoy what we had as kids growing up in Paterson. Hope to see you all at the Paterson Dayl
Please put me on your mailing list. Plan to be there 2/09. Fourth generation born in Paterson (Barnert Hospital). Grew up in the 40’s, 50’s. Worked in Sussman’s drug store, Bar Mitzvah in Temple Emanuel - Rabbi Buch (before Panitz). Reindeer in Eastside Park, sleigh riding down those awesome hills.
Friday nights at Doane’s Diner - just to be seen was enough. Was there ever a greater ritual? Cruising!!! Toby’s. The deli at 33rd and Park Ave.
PS #13, Sherwood 2 - 0540. My dad was a GP on 25th St. just off Broadway.
Would have graduated Eastside in 1/55 but finished senior year in boarding school in Conn. I really missed not having that experience.
Looked at my neighborhood 3-4 years ago. Sad. Move along.
Now living in Baltimore with winters in Naples, FL. See you at lunch!!
Please put me on your mailing list . Graduated in 1968 , last reunion that I knew about was 20 years ago . Miss seeing old friends from Eastside .
Hi this is Bernie Lembo. I was born and raised in Paterson on March 1,1938. I am living in Little River South Carolina. I am a golf professional still active in tournament golf on the Sunbelt Senior Tour. I work at the Valley at Eastport in Little River SC. Stop by and see me when you are in this area.
What Can I say … It seems that Paterson is ALIVE AND WELL in the hearts and minds of those of us who remember the “old days” and growing up in the various sections, Hillcrest, Stony Road, Dublin, Little Italy, Eastside, Southside, etc. Me ? … I’m from Riverside (see my brother, Pete’s comments) and my first phone number (that I can remember) was LAmbert 5- 2217. I remember my paper route and delivering up to 116 papers of the PATERSON EVENING NEWS every day, and being a “Lembo”, about 85 of them were RELATIVES!! I played on the “ALL WAGS” midget league at the Paterson Oval across the street from School 18. I’ll never forget we were the first midget league teams to play “under the lights” for a benefit game for my father. The game was spearheaded by Johnny Pasquale III and Joe Passero (father of Judge Bob Passero who retired this year). Bobby was my coach. I think we lost the game to the other team, too.
Along with every one else, I remember Johnny & Hanges, Toby’s, Carvel (on Rt. 20 and on Market Street), Libby’s is still there, and still makes a great hot dog. Patsy’s is still going strong thanks to Gary and Steve and of course Marilyn. In case your wondering, the food is still GREAT. So many memories… So many friends….
Please put me on mailing list.
Thanks
